Deadly Crash East Of Livermore: Details Released

A passenger was pulled from the fiery wreckage by passersby, but they couldn't get the driver out due to the intense fire.

LIVERMORE, CA — More details were released Monday about a fiery weekend crash just east of Livermore that killed one person and left two injured.

Saturday's two-vehicle wreck was reported at approximately 5:05 a.m. on Grant Line Road west of Midway Road, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Tyler Hahn.

A Nissan was headed eastbound, and for unknown reasons, unsafely turned to the left into oncoming traffic. A Ford van traveling westbound at about 50 mph was hit by the Nissan, which erupted into flames, Hahn said.

The Nissan's passenger was pulled from the fiery wreckage by passersby and attempts were made to get the driver out too, but they couldn't due to the intense fire, Hahn said. The Nissan driver succumb to her injuries at the scene.

The Alameda County Coroner's Bureau said Monday it did not yet have a positive identification on the Nissan driver and next have kin have not been notified.

The Nissan passenger was transported to Eden Hospital for major injuries. The Ford driver suffered minor injuries and was also transported to a local hospital, according to Hahn.

Whether alcohol and/or drugs were crash factors are unknown at this time; the incident is still under investigation, Hahn said.

Grant Line Road was blocked for several hours Saturday due to the crash.
