LIVERMORE, CA — A man who is accused of driving while intoxicated was arrested in Tri-Valley Monday morning, according to the Dublin California Highway Patrol Office. At about 11 a.m., CHP officers were conducting an HOV lane enforcement detail on Interstate 580 when they spotted the driver who was allegedly speeding and weaving.

"This is another example of the fine work CHP officers are doing to make the highways safer," Commander Christopher Sherry told Patch. "I am pleased that this drunk driver was apprehended and arrested. More than one-third of all traffic-related deaths in California involve alcohol. As a community, we will not tolerate it."

The driver, whose name was not released, was found to be more than three times the legal alcohol limit, according to the CHP. The driver was arrested.

Last month, a driver was ticketed for driving 127 miles per hour on Interstate 580 near Greenville Road in Livermore, according to the CHP. In February, a driver on the same freeway managed to rack up about $1,000 in traffic fines with two speeding tickets in 11 minutes.

The CHP regularly shares a variety of traffic stops and violations on social media in an effort to raise awareness and discourage drivers from breaking traffic laws.
