Eagle Scout Award for Jack Orthmann
For his Eagle Scout project, Jack completed the milling and construction of 3 redwood raised Garden boxes for Sycamore Grove Park
Jack Orthmann has qualified to become an Eagle Scout and will receive the award at an Eagle Scout Court of Honor on February 8, 2025. Jack is the son of Jeff and Anne Orthmann of Livermore. He is a member of Troop 900 sponsored by the American Legion, Post 237. Jack appreciates all the support and work of his scoutmaster and dad, Jeff Orthmann and for his dedication to scouting and help along the way. He also extends thanks to Steve Dady his Cub Scout Den leader and his Cub Master of Pack 969.
Jack has been active in Scouting and has held leadership positions as Patrol Leader and Troop Guide. Jack loves scouting because he was able to experience and enhance his leadership experiences and participate in group activities like backpacking through Joshua Tree National Park, Emigrant Wilderness Area and Philmont. The many camping and fishing outings gave him a great appreciation for nature.
Jack during his journey Earned many awards: Conservation Good Turn Award, World Conservation Award, Outdoor Ethics Award, 50 Mile hiking award, Camping 131 nights for the National Outdoor Achievement Award for Camping segment with 3 gold and a silver device , Conservation service hours numbering 160 hours the National Outdoor Achievement Award Conservation segment with 4 gold and one Silver device, Riding a horse for 820 Miles the National Outdoor Achievement Award for Riding with 6 Gold and one Silver, Hiking 318 mikes the National Outdoor Achievement Award for Hiking with 3 Gold and one Silver Devices. One of Jack’s greatest achievements other than Eagle Scout was earning The National Medal for Outdoor achievement. This is an honor that fewer than 350 scouts have earned since its creation in 2010. It is the highest recognition that a Scout, Sea Scout, or Venturer can earn for exemplary achievement, experience, and skill in multiple areas of outdoor endeavor.

Jack Earned 40 Merit badges earning a Bronze, Gold and Silver Eagle Palm and completed 274 hours of service including the 160 hours of conservation mention above.
For his Eagle Scout project, Jack planned, lead and completed the milling and construction of 3 redwood raised Garden boxes for the Native plant garden at Sycamore Grove Park including creating a native soil mix and planting native plants. In all it took 250 hours to plan, organize, execute, and complete the project, leading follow scouts, friends, and family. Through donations from Trex Donovan and Buena Vista Trees provided the wood and plants and also helped to mill the lumber.

Jack is a senior at Livermore High School in Livermore. His interests finance and business. After high school he plans to continue his education by attending college.
To earn the rank of Eagle Scout, a Scout must be active in their troop, provide leadership, earn 21 merit badges including the areas of citizenship, camping, communications, cooking and lifesaving or emergency preparedness as well as demonstrate that they live by the principles of the Scout Oath and the Scout Law. They must also plan, develop, and give leadership to others in a service project benefiting a religious institution, school, or community group.
