Las Positas College to Host World Renowned Jazz Guitarist Mimi Fox

Internationally renowned guitarist/composer/recording artist Mimi Fox will perform in concert with the Las Positas College Jazz Band at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 7, in the Barbara Fracisco Mertes Center for the Arts. Tickets are $12 for general admission and $8 for students; parking is $2. Fox will present a jazz improvisation workshop the same day, 2-4 p.m., in Room 4138. It is open to the public, and welcomes all ages and instruments. Admission is free for Las Positas College students and $5 for general admission. Tickets can be purchased at the door.

"We are delighted to bring Mimi Fox to Las Positas and the Tri-Valley," said Cindy Browne Rosefield, Las Positas College director of Instrumental Music. "She is a highly respected educator and considered one of the most widely acclaimed jazz guitarists in the world today."

Fox, who has released nine recordings as a leader, has been named a winner in six consecutive "DownBeat Magazine" international critics polls. She has performed or recorded with Branford Marsalis, David Sanchez, Houston Person, Don Lanphere, Abbey Lincoln, Diana Krall, Kevin Mahogany and Janis Siegal (Manhattan Transfer), Barbara Dennerlein, Lonnie Smith, Terri Lyne Carrington and fellow guitarists Charlie Byrd, Stanley Jordan, Charlie Hunter and Mundell Lowe. She also has shared the stage with legends Stevie Wonder and John Sebastian.

Fox also has written and performed original scores for orchestras, documentary films and dance projects, and is the recipient of prestigious grants from Meet the Composer and the California Arts Council.
