Father Foils Carjacking at Stoneridge Mall, Robbed by 2 Shotgun-Wielding Suspects

Thanks to the dad's quick thinking, no one was injured and the car was not taken.

Police are investigating an attempted carjacking that lead to a robbery at the Stoneridge Shopping Center in Pleasanton this afternoon, police officials said. According to a statement released by police, at about 1:25 p.m. two suspects approached a car occupied by a man and his two children.

“The victim reported that he was sitting in his parked vehicle in the lot near Sears with his two young children when the first suspect approached him on foot and stood near his driver’s door,” Lieutenant Brian Laurence said. “A second suspect stood by the rear of the victim’s vehicle. Suspect number one displayed what appeared to be a shotgun and demanded the victim’s vehicle. When the victim told the suspect that his two children were in the vehicle, the suspect instead demanded personal property from the victim and the victim complied. After obtaining the undisclosed personal property from the victim, the suspects got into a waiting vehicle and fled onto Stoneridge Mall Rd.”

According to Laurence, officers searched the area but were unable to find the suspects.

Police have describe the first suspect as a male in his mid-20s with a slim build, wearing a black trench coat. He is believed to be Pacific Islander, about 5 feet 10 inches tall. The second suspect was an African American adult in his mid-20s, wearing a light-colored jacket. He is also about 5 feet 10 inches tall.

Laurence said no one was injured during the incident. Anyone who may have information about this crime is asked to call the Pleasanton Police Department at (925) 931-5100.
