A former sociology teacher at Las Positas College in Livermore, along with her husband, have donated half a million dollars to the school, to benefit students with young children. According to the Las Positas College Foundation, the donation from Judy and Fred Porta will underwrite the 2GenFund.

The 2GenFund is a new program at the college, which provides scholarships for the toddler and pre-school age children of Las Positas students. The program is meant to allow students with children complete their education, by helping provide quality day care.

Foundation officials report that the amount of each scholarship will vary depending on the individual circumstances of each child’s family, but can be as much as $5,000 per semester. Preliminary applications for 2GenFund scholarships are available at www.laspositascollege.edu/childdevelopmentcenter.
