Frail Hawk Rescued At Big Trees Park In Livermore
The hawk had no visible injuries but would not leave the tree on its own because it was so weak, Animal Control officials said.
LIVERMORE, CA — A frail hawk was rescued Tuesday afternoon from a tree in Big Trees Park, according to Livermore Police Department Animal Control. Officials aren't sure what's wrong with the bird, but said he's been taken to Lindsay Wildlife Rehabilitation Hospital in Walnut Creek.
Hospital spokesperson Jennifer Modenessi confirmed the bird — a red-tailed hawk — arrived at 3:40 p.m. It seems to have a lower jaw tremor, which is unusual, she said.
The call first came in around 11:20 a.m. and officials were on scene for about an hour trying to get the bird out of the tree, said Animal Services Officers Kathy Holmes and Lorie Rueppel.

The Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department arrived at the scene and brought a ladder. Officials initially thought the hawk may have been injured because it was thrashing around in the tree, but later determined he had no visible injuries. Holmes and Rueppel said they determined the hawk was very weak and didn't want to let go in case he fell out of the tree.
