Jackson Avenue Elementary Taking Steps to be More Healthy and Active Thanks to Grant from Kaiser Permanente

Information provided by Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District—

Jackson Avenue Elementary School’s Healthy Active Stingrays program will kick-off on Wednesday, Jan. 15 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. on the playground with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and distribution of water bottles to all students and staff. The student community will do a Walk and Roll to School (walking,  skating, skateboarding or riding a scooter, or biking) and will meet at the parking lot off of Pomona  Avenue.

The teachers and staff will join the students in a walk around the LARPD park and then onto  the playground. On the playground there will be a small ceremony with a ribbon cutting to kick-off the full implementation of a Kaiser Permanente Grant.

The funding provided by Kaiser Permanente has provided Jackson Avenue the ability to install two hydration units for fresh filtered water daily; a salad cart to offer a fresh selection of foods each day; hiring of our Community Liaison, Jessica Torres, who provides structured active games and activities for students during recess and lunch times. 

Jackson School will also be providing families with hands-on wellness activities and cooking classes.

Superintendent Kelly Bowers; Director of Student Services, Scott Vernoy; Barbara Lee, Director of Campus Catering Projects; and Shari Johnston, Jackson Avenue Principal will attend the ceremony.
