July 4th Fireworks In Livermore: What To Know Before You Go

Street closures, hours and where to find the best viewing spots for the 2018 celebration.

LIVERMORE, CA – The "Red, White and Boom" community fireworks show will be held Wednesday, July 4 from the top of the parking garage on Railroad Avenue in downtown Livermore. And, as it is always well-attended, local officials offer the following guidelines so all can enjoy the evening.

The display will begin at approximately 9:30 p.m. and will last 20 minutes.

ROAD CLOSURES WILL BEGIN AT 4 p.m. AND LAST UNTIL ABOUT 11 p.m.:

"Several roadways will be closed in the downtown core to assure the safety of community members walking in the area, and those viewing the fireworks show," the Livermore Police Department said.

  • First Street will be closed between Old First and South L streets.
  • Railroad Avenue will be closed between Maple and South L streets.
  • Maple will be closed between Third Street and Railroad Avenue.
  • South Livermore Avenue will be closed between Second and Chestnut streets
  • The parking garage will be closed to vehicles early Wednesday afternoon until approximately 11 p.m. Vehicles may park in the garage prior to its closure, but will not be able to leave the garage until the road closures are lifted.

Expect traffic delays on all downtown streets from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m.

VIEWING AREAS:

Spectators can congregate on the closed roads of Railroad between South Livermore and South L, and on Maple between First and Third.

"These should be the prime viewing locations," officials said, adding that community members can bring chairs and to set up on the closed streets.

The fireworks display is not a high-aerial show, but consists of concentrated low-level fireworks. Those who want to view the fireworks from other than prime spots can select locations within a few blocks of the parking garage.

Attendees are encouraged to walk to the downtown area or use public transportation. WHEELS buses will run on the Fourth with service to the transit center in downtown. See bus info here.

Residents wishing to avoid downtown on that day are advised to use Fourth Street or Portola Avenue to travel across town.

OTHER REMINDERS:

Consumption and possession of alcohol in public places is prohibited in Livermore.

All fireworks are illegal in the City of Livermore, including “Safe and Sane” types that are legal to purchase in other cities, including Dublin.

And be warned: Livermore police will have extra officers working on the Fourth of July, and they will be looking for alcohol and fireworks violations.
