Las Positas College Hosting Eyes Of Freedom Veterans Tribute
The memorial is viewable for free in the Barbara F. Mertes Center for the Arts.
From LPC: Las Positas College (LPC) is hosting the "Eyes of Freedom: Lima Company Memorial" a traveling memorial featuring eight powerful life-sized portraits of 23 fallen servicemen from the Ohio-based Lima Company (3rd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment) during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2005 and honors all past, present and future servicemen.
Envisioned by artist Anita Miller and made possible with the help of the families of the fallen soldiers featured, the "Eyes of Freedom: Lima Company Memorial" was unveiled 11 years ago in the Ohio State House Rotunda and travels throughout the country, allowing visitors to reflect on the hundreds of thousands of men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice while in the line of duty.
Last year, Miller added a life-sized, bronze sculpture of a serviceman seated, head down and deep in thought. The piece, named "Silent Battle," represents the struggle with suicide and post-traumatic stress many veterans face while navigating life after combat and offers healing through acknowledgement and hope.
"Eyes of Freedom: Lima Company Memorial" is made possible through support from the Safeway Foundation, Pleasanton Military Families, LPC Veterans First Program and LPC Student Veterans Organization.
The memorial is viewable for free in the Barbara F. Mertes Center for the Arts, Building 4000 lobby, 3000 Campus Hill Drive in Livermore. Parking passes are available at the parking lot kiosks for $3. An opening ceremony is scheduled in front of Building 4000 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Monday, April 29.
