Las Positas College Hosts 26th Commencement Ceremony

LIVERMORE, CA: Las Positas College (LPC) in Livermore will recognize the 245 graduates of the 2015-2016 year who will walk at the annual commencement ceremony on Friday, May 27. The processional will begin at 6 p.m. in the Physical Education Complex (Building 2500) on the LPC campus. Tickets, which are free, are required, and complimentary on-campus parking will be available.

This year's commencement program includes the annual Friend of the College Award, which will be given to local entrepreneurs Blanca and Eduardo Posada, the owners of Posada restaurant in Livermore. The family-owned restaurant and catering business has been recognized by food critics throughout the San Francisco Bay Area for its fresh and inspiring contemporary Southwest cuisine.

"The Posadas exemplify the meaning of the Friends of the College Award. They generously donate their time and resources to Las Positas College and the community at large to support education and numerous other philanthropic efforts," said LPC President Dr. Barry Russell.

The College will confer more than 1,100 degrees and certificates this year, and also celebrate the transfer of 489 students to the California State University (CSU) system. LPC students will continue their university education at CSU campuses in Bakersfield, Channel Islands, Chico, Dominguez Hills, East Bay, Fresno, Fullerton, Humboldt, Long Beach, Los Angeles, Maritime Academy, Monterey Bay, Northridge, Pomona, Sacramento, San Bernadino, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose, San Luis Obispo, San Marcos, Sonoma, and Stanislaus.

Approximately 93% of newly admitted transfer students to the CSU system hail from California community colleges. The admit rate for transfer students this year was 22% and represents 3,763 community college students who were offered admission. Las Positas College transfers to University of California (UC) campuses were also significant this year, with 179 students heading to some of the most elite colleges in the nation.

Of the 179 students doing so, 37 will wear the blue and gold of Cal upon their entrance to UC Berkeley. Meanwhile, UC Davis has accepted 102 LPC students this year. Students from LPC were also accepted at UC Irvine, UCLA, UC Merced, UC Riverside, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara, and UC Santa Cruz.
