Las Positas Journalism Students Garner Awards In National 'Better Newspapers' Contest

From LPC: Las Positas College (LPC) in Livermore is pleased to report that three student journalists were recently honored by the California Newspaper Publishers Association (CNPA) for their work during the 2016-17 academic year. The CNPA's annual Better Newspapers Contest recognizes journalism excellence among its membership's more than 900 daily, weekly, and monthly newspapers. The contest is considered one of the nations largest, drawing nearly 4,000 entries each year.

"We congratulate our student journalists on receiving this prestigious award," said LPC President Barry Russell. "The Better Newspapers Contest evaluates fledgling and veteran journalists in a very competitive arena in which LPC is honored to be included."

Ian Jones of El Sobrante earned a second place award for his ongoing column in the Las Positas student newspaper, The Express for his column "That's How I Roll." Jones describes his column as "answering the questions about disability people didn't know they had."

The Express production editor Jennifer Snook of Livermore and staff writer Jeremy Julian of Manteca, shared an honorable mention recognition for a series of photo illustrations that accompanied Julian's review, "'Watch­_Dogs 2' Faithfully Recreates the Bay Area in Videogame Form." Julian now attends San Francisco State University as journalism major.
