Livermore, California City Council ignores its own historic preservation law to demolish 1960s Library and build new $7.7M Council Chamber

Monday night, July 24th, the Livermore City Council will vote to demolish the 1960s library building at the Civic Center and replace it with a $7.7 million City Council Chambers (Item No. 6.01). The City is not following its own laws. Livermore Development Code sec. 9.02 requires City Historic Preservation Commission review of demolition of buildings over 50 years old. The library opened in 1966, more than 50 years ago. The City Historic Preservation Commission has not reviewed the proposed demolition. Please write to the City Council before Monday night at livermorecitycouncil@cityoflivermore.net and demand that the City follow its own laws before building their $7.7 million Taj Mahal!
