Livermore Mayor Celebrates Dr. Seuss' Birthday

Read Across America Day is celebrated on March 2 each year.

LIVERMORE, CA — Thousands of teachers in classrooms across the country celebrated Read Across America Day in honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday Thursday. School administrators around Tri-Valley were spotted in drop-off lines and hallways wearing festive Seuss-themed garb.

In Livermore, Mayor John Marchand joined students at Altamont Creek Elementary to read as part of the festivities.

“Reading at the schools was a lot of fun,” Marchand said.

Theodor Seuss Geisel was born in Massachusetts and died in La Jolla, California, in 1991. He is famous for classics like "The Cat in the Hat" and “Green Eggs and Ham." Read Across America is meant to encourage and foster a love of reading in children.
