Roberts, Livermore City Manager for the past 5 years, chronicles the history of the city including the incorporation of Livermore, creation of the wine industry, ranching, and the world’s fastest rodeo with pictures never before published. He covers rail transportation, the post-war housing boom, and the establishment of two national laboratories. “Probably one of the most surprising things early in our history was the Paris International Exposition in 1889,” said Roberts. “The French take their wine very seriously. It was a huge exposition with 17,000 entries. For the very first time the top prize was awarded to a non-French wine. An 1886 Cresta Blanca Livermore Valley Sauterne captured this honor.”
