Livermore Shakespeare Festival Recognized by School Board

The Festival has a program in Livermore second grade classrooms to teach children about Shakespeare.

LIVERMORE - The Livermore Shakespeare Festival has been officially recognized by the Board of Trustees of the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District for implementing the city wide So Wise So Young Shakespeare program for second graders.

The 10-week program puts professional teaching artists in 37 second grade classrooms in the Livermore public schools over the 2015-16 school year. The curriculum is focused on literacy and uses Shakespeare to teach critical and creative thinking, communication and collaboration, and is fully integrated with Common Core standards.

The Shakespeare Festival’s Beth Trutner said, “Watching second graders engross themselves in Shakespeare’s language, wit and plot twists is tremendously rewarding. LSF is thrilled to be partnering with the school district to give young students an appreciation for timeless stories well told.”
