Livermore Valley Half Marathon Canceled

The cancellation followed a county statement that recommended cancelling gatherings of 1,000 people or more.

LIVERMORE, CA — The Livermore Valley Half Marathon on March 15 has been canceled following an Alameda County Public Health Department recommendation that gatherings of more than 1,000 people be called off or postponed. The run will be held as a virtual event, meaning it can be completed anywhere, and runners can still receive their bibs and race completion medal.

"There is no higher priority to our entire running family than the safety of our runners, spectators, volunteers and staff," said Race Director Ryan Dawkins in a statement on the marathon's website.

  • 5 to 7 p.m. March 12, Altamont Beer Works Launch Party, Packet Pickup
  • 5 to 7 p.m. March 13, Sunrise Mountain Sports Packet Pickup & Shopping Party
  • 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 14, Darcie Kent Winery, packet pickup with live music and wine tasting.

Though event organizer Mascot Sports is bowing out, some determined runners still intend to run the route, Livermore Downtown said on Facebook. Downtown restaurants will still be open to serve runners, Livermore Downtown said.
