Bay Area Freeway Shutdown After Driver Shoots Passenger With Child In Car: CHP

All lanes of I-580 were briefly closed after a man from Oakland allegedly tossed a gun onto the freeway, police said.

LIVERMORE, CA — All lanes of eastbound I-580 west of Fallon Road in Livermore were closed Saturday evening after a man reportedly shot someone in his car with a child inside and then threw the gun out the car window, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP officers were called to the scene at about 5:35 p.m. Saturday. After the shooting, the car left the freeway and stopped on city streets, where occupants of the vehicle called 911, CHP said. No other vehicles were involved in the shooting.

The suspect, identified as 41-year-old Antoine Maurice Nolan of Oakland, was detained by CHP detectives. The victim was transported to a local hospital for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the lower body, CHP said.

All eastbound lanes of I-580 were briefly closed as officers recovered the discarded firearm and checked for any additional evidence.

Nolan was booked into Santa Rita Jail on charges of felony child endangerment and various weapons violations. The CHP Golden Gate Division Major Crime Unit is investigating the case.
