New Principals Announced For 2 Livermore Schools
Both principals are eager to begin collaborating with their teachers and staff to launch the 2018-19 school year next month.
From LVJUSD:When school starts on August 20, students and families at Mendenhall Middle School and Smith Elementary School will welcome new principals. Tammy Rankin will serve as Mendenhall’s new principal, and Joseph Meunier will join the District as the new principal at Smith.
“Ms. Rankin has long been a leader in our district, and we are excited to see her take the helm of Mendenhall,” said Superintendent of Schools Kelly Bowers, Ed.D. “And I am so eager for the students to meet Mr. Meunier - they will love his enthusiasm.”
Tammy Rankin is happy to return to Mendenhall Middle School to continue working with the many students and families she has been with for the past six years. In her most recent position as Smith Elementary principal, Rankin was proud of supporting staff in ensuring that all students’ needs were met academically and socially. She looks forward to continuing this work at Mendenhall. Rankin believes that forming strong partnerships between families and the school is an essential part of every student’s education, and she believes that it is her job to help students find a connection to the school community to ensure success. Rankin was born and raised in Livermore, attending LVJUSD schools from kindergarten through grade twelve. She earned a B.S. and M.S. from California State University, Hayward. Rankin has worked in the LVJUSD for 24 years, teaching at Livermore High School and Vineyard High School, and serving as an administrator for the last 18 years. She has served as the Dean of Guidance at Granada High School, vice principal at Junction Avenue Middle School (now K-8) and Mendenhall Middle School, and principal at Jackson Avenue Elementary and Smith Elementary.

Joe Meunier brings experience at elementary and middle schools to his new leadership role in LVJUSD. His priority as a principal will be to ensure that every child learns in a happy, healthy, and supportive environment. Meunier looks forward to ensuring student success as principal at Smith Elementary through quality curriculum delivery and social and emotional support. Meunier has lived in Livermore for nine years. He has worked in the Pleasanton Unified School District (PUSD) since 2009, serving as an elementary and middle school teacher and, most recently, as vice principal at Hart Middle School. His tenure at PUSD shaped his passion for education and for supporting student growth. Meunier earned his BA and teaching credential from Saint Mary’s College, and his Administrative Leadership credential from California State University East Bay.
