Record Shattering Fundraisers Inspire Repeat Performances in Livermore

The Livermore Valley Education Foundation Hosts Two Fundraising Games with the Harlem Wizards Basketball Team

Last year Livermore Valley Education Foundation (LVEF) hosted the Harlem Wizards basketball team to help raise money for Livermore schools and celebrate LVEF’s 25th Anniversary. What transpired was nothing short of amazing.

Those who attended the first game at Livermore High School last year witnessed an ‘80’s, old-school, backboard shattering slam dunk. This single event gained the attention of national sports media, where the feature was broadcast nationally, and created buzz for the following game at Granada High School. And, while no backboards were broken during the second game, the two games combined shattered fundraising records for LVEF. Both games were sold out. Plus, the Harlem Wizards quickly furnished a brand new backboard for Livermore High School.

In conjunction with presenting sponsors Livermore Barber Shop and Livermore Dental Care, LVEF is proud to bring the nationally recognized Harlem Wizards back for two games. Word is already spreading like wild fire across the Tri-Valley as evidenced by brisk ticket sales. Some of the premium ticket categories have already sold out.

“With so much positive feedback and family fun last year, coupled with two sold out events, it was a unanimous LVEF Board decision to invite the Harlem Wizards back to Livermore this year, " shares Greg Park, Event Co-Chair and LVEF Treasurer.

Administrators, teachers, coaches and student athletes make up two hometown teams facing the Wizards for show-stopping entertainment the whole family will enjoy while providing a financial boost for our local schools. Catharine Baker, Assemblywoman representing the 16th District, is just one confirmed of many notable players for the local teams.

“Making a world of a difference that lasts a lifetime for Livermore students” is LVEF’s tagline. With over $4 million raised for LVJUSD schools since 1991, LVEF is doing just that. Notable recent LVEF grants include $39,000 to purchase Chromebooks for high school students, and $20,000 to help fund “So Wise, So Young,” an interactive Shakespeare program for all LVJUSD second graders.
