Robot Garden's Results at the 2017 RoboGames

Robot Garden Result in the 2017 RoboGame at the Pleasanton Fairground April 21-23.

Robot Garden members were in full force at the 2017 RoboGames at the Pleasanton Fairgrounds. Nearly half of the organization showed up to see fellow members participate in the events. The picture above is of the two RoboMagellan event teams taking 1st & 4th place in the main autonomous navigation event. The members competed in combat robotics and two navigational events.

Icky Mouse

Battle Bot competition was fierce, running 3 full days for all dozen plus weight classes. The Robot Garden entries delivered their share of competitive matches, however in the end they suffered damage beyond repair and were forced to retreat and plan for next time. When unable to continue the match, one may "tap out," requesting to not have one's bot damaged further. However, as one combat bot, Icky Mouse, experienced in its final match, the competition may invoke too much adrenaline flowing to back off immediately.

Marco Walther's Dexter
In the TableTopNav competition, Marco Walther's bot "Dexter" took second place, not only avoiding falling off the table but completing all the required tasks.

Team Robot Garden's Victoria
In the RoboMagellan competition, each autonomous bot competitor had to complete a 100 yard timed dash on an obstacle course, finding and touching an orange cone. Both of the entries did well. Team "Robot Garden's" entry, Victoria, was the first to actually identify and touch the final cone. Victoria's 54.12 second run was adequate to place fourth in a field of 14 entries (watch them run). Marco Walther's entry, Entdecker L, won the event by completing bonus cone touches along the path before touching the final cone. Entdecker L's final time was 12.06 seconds despite a total run time of 3 minutes and 13 seconds, this due to two bonus cone touches (watch the event from the Bot's view).

Marco Walther's Entdecker L
The event was a great success, and despite the competitive environment everyone enjoyed the 2017 RoboGames. Robot Garden members are hard at work planning for the 2018 RoboGames events; if you would like you participate, please watch for a MeetUp Calendar event (robotgarden.org) in order to get involved for next year.
