DANVILLE, CA – An email "threatening violence" toward an unnamed school was sent to the San Ramon Valley Unified School District, along with several other districts in California and the United Kingdom, the Danville Police Department said today.
The identical emails, which did not specify a school, person, date or time, appear to be "an apparent hoax" and likely the work of an international hacking group, police said.
The incident is being investigated by the Danville and San Ramon police departments and also was forwarded to the regional federal and state cyber task force.
"This information is being shared out to let you know that there is NO credible threat that has been made," police said. "However, Danville PD and other law enforcement will continue to look into the incident, as a matter of safety for the entire community."
Police did not disclose when the email was sent or name the other school districts involved.
