School District, City Celebrate Local Manufacturing Day in October

Event Highlights Livermore Manufacturing Career Opportunities

The Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District (LVJUSD) and the City of Livermore will celebrate Manufacturing Day on October 2nd, 2015 with student-focused events. Manufacturing Day is an annual national event to showcase modern manufacturing technology and careers.

The LVJUSD and the City of Livermore are collaborating with regional industry and technology partners to create learning opportunities tailored to the unique manufacturing careers available in the region. Manufacturing Day partners include Las Positas College, Tri-Valley Education Collaborative, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers Silicon Valley Chapter, and the Pleasanton and Dublin school districts. The Tri-Valley Regional Occupational Program (ROP) is generously funding the day’s activities.

“Livermore manufacturers contribute to the vitality of our local economy,” said Kelly Bowers, LVJUSD Superintendent. “It is essential that Livermore students experience the real world applications of their classroom learning. Livermore’s manufacturing industry has a strong demand for highly skilled professionals who can design, program and operate technologically advanced machinery. Through this partnership we are developing the talent pool of the future.”

Planned events include plant tours of Bakefresh and Topcon Positioning Systems in Livermore and a lunch reception and presentation hosted by the RK Logistics Group and Electro Imaging Systems.

Livermore Mayor John Marchand, Silicon Valley United States Patent and Trade Office Director John Cabeca and other government officials, community leaders, and manufacturers will join the students and participants at the luncheon.

“Manufacturing is an important sector in Livermore’s overall economic base as well as a source of well- paying jobs for our residents,” said Livermore City Manager Marc Roberts. “The average age of a manufacturing employee is fifty-six, so skilled replacements will be needed in the decades ahead. Events like Manufacturing Day help position the city for future economic opportunities in this industry sector.”
