Man Fishing In Livermore Canal Likely Drowned, Officials Say
The Tracy man's family became concerned when he did not return from fishing Monday night.

LIVERMORE, CA — Authorities believe an elderly fisherman who may have fallen into a canal in rural Livermore likely drowned. The Alameda County Sheriff's Office spent much of the day searching the Delta Mendota Canal and surrounding area for the 71-year-old Tracy man who went missing Monday.
Concerned family members found his parked car Tuesday morning, which was unoccupied. Neither the missing man nor his fishing pole were found, but those searching recovered his tackle box near the Grant Line Road entrance to the canal.
“Deputies located fresh slippage marks along the bank of the canal consistent with someone sliding into the water,” Sgt. Ray Kelly said.
