Alpert JCC Announces Winners of the Gottlieb Art Awards

The young artists had their art displayed in The Zena and Pauline Gatov Gallery exhibit at Alpert Jewish Community Center.

The 38th Annual Norman Gottlieb annual Youth Art Show and Competition once again showed that the talent pool in the Long Beach Unified School District is limitless. The yearly showcase, which past AJCC President Norman Gottlieb established, featured 62 student artists from 15 middle and high schools in the Long Beach, Catalina, Lakewood, and Signal Hill areas. The young artists had their art displayed in The Zena and Pauline Gatov Gallery exhibit at Alpert Jewish Community Center and were judged by an expert panel.

The competition was the first time for many of these student artists to have their art displayed in a gallery exhibit.

“It's challenging, even daunting, to craft a piece of art and present it to be judged by experts in the field,” said Jewish Long Beach CEO Zach Benjamin. “The participants submitted outstanding art, and we would like to thank everyone for taking part and congratulate the winners.”

The students' names were concealed during the judging so the panel could evaluate their work without bias. After evaluation, there was one winner selected from the high school students and one winner chosen from the middle school students. The winners were awarded an art supply gift card. Also, at the ceremony, the winner of the Honingman Award for Inspired Visual Arts Education award was also selected.
