LONG BEACH — A woman who fell to her death from a stateroom balcony aboard a Carnival Cruise Line ship near Catalina Island earlier this week has been identified.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner identified her on Thursday as 24-year-old Briana Miller. Authorities did not provide her city of residence.
Carnival Cruise Line officials said Miller fell from the balcony early Monday morning aboard the Carnival Firenze.
``(She) was traveling with family who alerted the ship's crew of the situation,'' Carnival officials said in a statement earlier this week.
The Carnival Firenze, a roughly 1,000-foot ship, was on a cruise that originated in Long Beach, with stops at Catalina Island and Ensenada, Mexico.
The circumstances of her fall were under investigation, with the FBI being among the agencies investigating the death.
