LONG BEACH, CA — A Long Beach man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of another Long Beach resident last week in the city's Willmore neighborhood, police announced Wednesday.
Following an investigation, Long Beach Police Department homicide detectives identified Lefulefu Kaio Pasa Jr., 29, of Long Beach, as the suspect in the killing of Ali Darren Muhammad Azim, 38, of Long Beach.
According to LBPD, members of the department's Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team served a search warrant Wednesday in the 600 block of Cedar Avenue, where Pasa Jr. was taken into custody. He was booked on suspicion of murder, and his bail was set at $2 million.
Police said detectives will present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office for filing consideration.
The arrest stems from a fatal shooting reported at approximately 12:59 a.m. on July 31 in the 700 block of Magnolia Avenue.
Officers responding to reports of gunfire found Azim suffering from a gunshot wound and rendered medical aid until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the suspect fled before officers arrived. Homicide detectives later identified Pasa Jr. through their investigation.
The motive and circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation, according to police.
