Long Beach Businesses Can Get Up To $1,500 For Cameras, Alarms And Other Security (patch.com) — Long Beach business owners now have access to grants of up to $1,500 to install security cameras, alarms, lighting, and other safety upgrades through the city's new $400,000 Safe & Secure Long Beach Grant Program. Funded by city redevelopment dollars and county support, the reimbursement-based grants aim to help more than 250 local storefronts improve safety for employees, customers, and surrounding neighborhoods.
   

2. What Long Beach can teach communities about youth participatory budgeting (youthtoday.org) — Long Beach's Youth Power Participatory Budgeting program let more than 1,400 local youth decide how to spend $500,000 on community projects, giving residents ages 12 to 26 real decision-making power. The article explains how the city structures idea collection, voting, and implementation to reach harder-to-engage youth and build long-term civic involvement.
   

3. For a Good Cause: Long Beach seeks volunteers for 42nd annual California Coastal Cleanup Day (presstelegram.com) — Long Beach is recruiting volunteers for California Coastal Cleanup Day on Sept. 19, with 10 local beaches and marinas hosting cleanups from 9 a.m. to noon. The city will provide supplies, free parking, and family-friendly activities as part of a larger statewide effort and preparations for the 2028 Olympic events at Alamitos Beach.
   

4. Man found dead in suspected homicide in Long Beach (presstelegram.com) — Long Beach police are investigating a suspected homicide after 33-year-old resident Kenneth Shannon was found dead Thursday morning on the 6500 block of Muriel Avenue, north of the 91 Freeway. Detectives say his injuries appear suspicious and are asking anyone with information to contact homicide investigators or submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers.
