Officers found the girl suffering from a gunshot wound to her lower body. Long Beach Fire Department personnel took her to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life threatening, police said.

Police have not released any suspect information or determined a motive.

"While the motive remains under investigation, the incident is possibly gang related," LBPD said in its Thursday blotter.

Sergeant Bradford Stein, an LBPD public information officer, told Patch Friday that no additional details were available and that the investigation remained active.
