Southland CPKs to donate a portion of today's proceeds to slain Long Beach Capt. Dave Rosa's family.

LONG BEACH, CA – Participating California Pizza Kitchen restaurants in Los Angeles and Orange counties and in the Inland Empire will hold fundraisers today to benefit the family of Long Beach Fire Captain Dave Rosa, who was fatally shot last month while responding to an explosion at a senior housing complex in Long Beach.

A 17-year veteran of the department, Rosa, 45, a husband and father of two sons, was shot June 25 at the 11-story building in the 600 block of East Fourth Street.

The nonprofit group Police and Fire: The Fallen Heroes has partnered with California Pizza Kitchen for the fundraiser, during which 20 percent of customers' bills will be donated to Rosa's family.

Thomas Man Kim, 77, is accused of killing Rosa and wounding two others. Authorities contend Kim set off an explosive device in the senior housing building in an effort to kill a neighbor with whom he had been feuding. He allegedly got scared when police and firefighters arrived and began shooting, striking Rosa and another firefighter who survived.

Kim made his initial court appearance July 9 wearing a hospital gown and in a wheelchair, but his arraignment was postponed until Aug. 15.

Another fund to benefit Rosa's family also was established, with information available at www.friendsoflbfire.org/police-fire-memorial.
