What Recreational Athletes Should Know About Overuse Injuries This Fall

As fall sports and recreational activities get underway across Long Beach, Riverside, Alhambra, and City of Industry, many people pay attention to obvious injuries like sprains, falls, and sudden strains. What often gets overlooked is an overuse injury, which can develop gradually when tendons, muscles, and joints are exposed to repeated activity without enough time to recover.
Overuse injuries rarely begin with one dramatic moment. Instead, you may notice soreness after a workout, practice, or weekend activity that seems to improve with rest but returns when you become active again. Over time, the discomfort may become more persistent, affect your performance, or start interfering with normal activities.
The right response depends on what is actually causing the pain. Initial treatment may include modifying activity, improving conditioning, physical therapy, or other conservative measures. When pain continues despite these approaches, an evaluation can help determine whether additional treatment is appropriate.
For recreational athletes and active adults, persistent pain should not simply be treated as part of getting back into shape. If the same pain keeps returning with a particular movement or activity, having it evaluated may help prevent a manageable problem from becoming a longer-term limitation.
Integrative Sports & Spine provides non-surgical pain management at four Southern California locations in Long Beach, Riverside, Alhambra, and City of Industry.
