Clerk Filmed Dozens Of Co-Workers In Bathroom: Prosecutors

Police were made aware of the case after a co-worker allegedly saw the clerk acting suspiciously​​ in the bathroom and reported him.

LONG BEACH, CA – A former Long Beach police clerk was charged with 115 misdemeanor counts after he was accused of filming nearly 70 of his male colleagues using the restroom without their knowledge, authorities said. Sergio Nieto, 28, allegedly took more than 100 video recordings of his coworkers on the second-floor bathroom inside the headquarters of the Long Beach Police Department, KCAL9 reported.

Nieto was charged with 115 misdemeanor counts of invasion of privacy. In total, 69 employees were filmed at least once, and one man was secretly recorded more than a dozen times, according to the Long Beach Press-Telegram.

Long Beach City Prosecutor Doug Haubert told the newspaper each misdemeanor count carries a six-month sentence, the newspaper said.

“Obviously we’re taking this very seriously,” Haubert told the Press-Telegram. “This is a serious breach of public trust and of coworkers.”

According to officials, Nieto filmed the victims over a three-month period while he was in the bathroom with him. Part of his job as a clerk was to review accidentally-recorded body cam footage filmed in places like bathrooms, according to KCAL9.

He's currently free on a $25,000 bail.
