Cops ID Man Hit And Killed By Car While Walking On 710 Freeway

The 29-year-old from Long Beach died at the scene.

LONG BEACH, CA – Authorities identified a man Thursday who was hit and killed by a car while walking on the Long Beach (710) Freeway with another man, who was also hit by the car but survived.

The men were walking in the No. 1 lane of the northbound freeway, north of Del Amo Boulevard, when they were hit by a 2005 Honda Civic about 2 a.m. Saturday, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Jose Garcia, 29, of Long Beach died at the scene, the Los Angeles County coroner's office reported. The other man, whose name was withheld, was taken to a hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.

It was not known why the men were walking on the freeway.
