Day 1 Qualifying And More

Today was practice and qualifying for the two main events for Round One of Formula Drift in Long Beach.

Formula Drift is not based on time, but is rather judged in three categories on a 100 point system based on line, angle and style and breaks down as follows:

Line judge can award up to 25 points + 10 points for Style
Angle judge can award up to 25 points + 10 points for Style
Style judge can award up to 30 points

The 2013 Formula Drift Champion Michael Essa came out on top in today's Qualifying at 96 of a possible 100 points. Vaughn Gittin, Jr. was a very close second at at 94 points, and rounding out the top three is Tyler McQuarrie at 93 points.

Tomorrow are the two main events. A round of 32 at 11 am then the final 16 at 3:30 pm. Gates open at 10 am, and there is plenty to do in the paddock area for everyone, teams and drivers included!
