Day one is officially over at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, and here are some stats and photos to help keep you up to date.
Toyota Pro Celebrity Race Qualifying
Brett Davern has won the pole for the ten lap charity race this year. In earlier practice it seemed Rutledge Wood was right on the tail of Al Unser Jr. There were a couple of near spin-outs coming off turn ten, but they kept they Scion FR-S's in check and got back into the slot.
Pirelli World Challenge Championhips
Johnny O'Connell led in GT, and Lawson Aschenbach led in GTS. Qualifying is tomorrow at 5pm tomorrow and this series is something to watch. This year, there are LED numbers on each vehicle which will show you their position in the race according to their category.
IndyCar Practice
During several sessions today, IndyCar teams presented their cars for inspection and were able to get a feel for the course. This is a critical step before qualifying, as each track has its own unique characteristics.
In speaking with Scott Dixon and Tony Kanaan earlier today, they say that the same turn will be different depending on where you are in the turn. Then you have to judge whether or not to loosen or tighten the suspension or tune other aspects of the car accordingly. All within the given time in the pit or the paddock.
Saturday Events
Tomorrow brings you the Toyota Pro Celebrity Race as well as official qualifying for Pirelli and IndyCar. And of course, the stage is set for Paul Rodgers and tomorrow night's concert!
