📰 Here are the top stories today in Long Beach:
- When you steal a car, it's a bad idea to have folks push it. A 33-year-old suspect found that out on Saturday, when some people pushed a vehicle near 10th Street and Walnut Avenue. A nearby Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) officer noticed that it had been stolen a day earlier from in front of a 7-Eleven on PCH. It turns out that the folks doing the pushing didn't do the stealing, but they knew where a suspect lived. Officers found her at home and located the 7-year-old dog that was also in the stolen vehicle. It's fair to say the dog's owner was overjoyed to have him back. (LBPD, ABC)
- Another string of burglaries leaves small business owners wondering how to make ends meet. A burglar broke into three restaurants Sunday morning in the wee hours. They hit The Breakfast Bar at 3404 East 4th Street, Speak Cheezy at 3950 East 4th Street, and the Baja Sonora Mexican Restaurant at 2940 Clark Avenue. The suspect smashed windows, stole money, and was recorded on camera. (Patch)
- A deadly collision cost the driver of a 1996 Toyota Camry their life. The accident happened Sunday morning after 4 a.m. when the Camry in the southbound lane collided with a 2021 Hyundai Sonata that "was speeding northbound along Magnolia" between 21st and Hill streets. While the LBPD hasn't released more information, a resident says that often, people race down this stretch of road to see "how fast of a speed they can register on the radar reader at 23rd Street and Magnolia Avenue." According to the neighbor, South Wrigley residents have been asking for speed bumps and similar items for several years. (Long Beach Post)
- Do you remember throwing an axe at summer camp and loving it? Do you also remember the scuttlebutt in 2019 that Long Beach would get an axe-throwing studio? Well, it's here! Bad Axe officially opened at 245 Pine Avenue, right where the Chipotle is. "You can grab a drink and get competitive with your friends and have some fun," the operations manager said Thursday. So, now you can play golf indoors and throw axes. What's next? (HiLo)
- The East Village Arts District lost another small business to the pandemic. 3 Women at 433 East 1st Street closed its doors on Sunday. After four years, the brick-and-mortar business model proved to be no longer sustainable, and the small business is moving its operations online. (3 Women)
