Death And Alcohol Vs. Marijuana

The World Health Organization  has released its 2012 figures on drinking, and the figures are not toast worthy.

It states that worldwide deaths related to the consumption of alcohol to currently be at about 3,300,000 people. Meanwhile, zero deaths for marijuana overdoses have yet to be reported.

It is also reported that 16 percent of people which do consume alcohol participate in binge drinking. binge drinking leads to a large percentage of all drinking deaths, and are more notably attributed to the 'college crowd' in the United States. And again, no overdoses of marijuana yet being reported.

In 2012, 10,322 people died as the result of someone driving under the influence of alcohol, according to MADD's database which includes NTSB figures. According to most sources for information on marijuana related deaths on the internet, the mean number of marijuana related deaths seems to be about 400 per year in the United states.

However, it seems major news organizations are claiming a urge in marijuana related driving deaths in Washington and Colorado. While some blame it on conservative propaganda in order to try and derail those state's recent legalization of marijuana, the truth will be told once NTSB figures are made available.

But in looking at the figures, it seems that alcohol is slowly becoming a major cause of death, and is slowly approaching the same figures as cigarette smoking as a whole.

It should also be noted that some people which do drink choose not to use marijuana, but do choose to use other drugs. But no role of alcohol being a gateway drug has yet to be made as harshly as marijuana is.

And when all the figures are placed into any calculator or spreadsheet, it can not be denied that marijuana is not nearly as deadly as alcohol.
