The 87-year-old allegedly fatally stabbed his roommate and then dumped the body in a Long Beach alley with an accomplice.

LONG BEACH, CA – An 87-year-old Long Beach man was charged Wednesday with fatally stabbing his roommate on New Year's Eve, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced. Ernest Weston has been charged with one count of murder. The felony complaint includes a special allegation that the defendant personally used a deadly and dangerous weapon, a knife, while committing the crime.

Weston's co-defendant, James Leonard Pettie, has been charged with being an accessory after the fact. Weston and Pettie were scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in Department S01 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Long Beach Branch, according to the District Attorney's Office. Prosecutors are asking that bail be set at $2 million for Weston and $1 million for Pettie.

Prosecutors said at the time of the reported crime, Weston, Pettie and victim Todd Dunlap were roommates in a home in the 400 block of East 5th Street in Long Beach. On Dec. 31, Weston allegedly stabbed Dunlap with a knife, according to prosecutors. Pettie then reportedly assisted Weston in dumping the body in a Long Beach alley, prosecutors said.
