If Your Big Boy Was Out All Night: I Hope You Tried the Comic Bug

If your boy was out all night... I hope you tried the comic book store!

If your husband was out all night last night, I hope you remembered to call the Comic Bug in Manhattan Beach.  He may have forgotten to tell you that it was 24 Hour Comics Day!  Or perhaps he told you and you were the one who forgot.  Regardless of which it was, don't be mad at him!

It's the 10th anniversary of this big boy sleepover at the comic book shop!  Mats are provided for those who must have their nap, but in truth, little sleep is actually had.  Some of the less hardy go home to their children's mothers (and fathers) but my big boy?  He sticks it out every time!

Mike and Jun, long-time co-owners of the Comic Bug, plan quite the party for their customers... friends.  Friends who draw together on Wednesdays and meet for Comic Book Creator meetings on monthly Saturdays.  Some well-known names in comic books will drop in on the meetings.  It's a community of creators.

The pizza, sandwiches, cookies and coffee flow all night long as the creators, bonded together by Marvel, D.C. and some newer labels in comic books write, draw, sketch their way into their story lines.  Comic books of their own creation.  They use pen and ink, watercolors, pencils, markers.  They draw on sketch paper, comic book board backs, or whatever they have on hand.  The well-known Emmy award winning artist sits next to the up-and-coming creator.

At 2:00 AM, the lines for the 50% off sale will be down the block and around the corner.  There's no pick-me-up for a comic book lover than a sale at the comic book store!

I stopped by to log some photos of the event.  Some of the photographed will be at the Long Beach Comic-Con on November 24th and 25th.  It's a 2 day event, but sadly, your boy will have to come home at night.

And if your big boy wasn't out all night last night?  There's always next year!  24-hour Comic Book Day starts at noon on the first October Saturday and ends at noon on the following day.
