July 4th Shooting Wounds Long Beach Cyclist

The man and a companion were riding bicycles when he was hit by gunfire near Del Amo Boulevard, police said.

LONG BEACH, CA – Police Thursday were trying to determine a motive for an Independence Day shooting that injured a man who was bicycling with a woman near the L.A. River, east of the Long Beach (710) Freeway.

The shooting occurred about 6 p.m. Wednesday near Del Amo Boulevard, according to Long Beach police spokeswoman Nancy Pratt.

The victim, who was wounded in the lower body, told police he had no idea where the gunfire came from, Pratt said.

The woman with him was not injured.

The man, whose name was withheld, was taken to a hospital with non- life-threatening injuries, Pratt said.
