Long Beach Apartment Fire Results In Man's Death

LONG BEACH, CA — An early morning apartment fire in Long Beach ultimately left a man dead, fire department officials said Wednesday.

The Long Beach Fire Department responded to reports of a fire in a second-story unit of an apartment building on the 1200 block of Walnut Avenue at 3:30 a.m. Upon arrival, firefighters began working to evacuate the building.

"Fire crews worked quickly and aggressively to rescue the occupants, extinguish the fire and evacuate the building," LBFD said on Twitter.

One resident, described as elderly by the Los Angeles County coroner's office, sustained injuries during the fire and died despite resuscitation efforts from paramedics.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire, officials said.
