Man Found Fatally Shot In Pickup Truck After Officers Hear Gunfire In Long Beach

Officers searched the area and found a pickup truck crashed into a light pole, police say.

LONG BEACH, CA — A murder investigation is underway after the sound of gunfire led officers to a man fatally shot inside a pickup truck in Long Beach, police say.

Officers patrolling the area heard multiple gunshots just before 2 a.m., the Long Beach Police Department said.

When officers arrived at the 1600 block of Gaviota Avenue, they searched the area and noticed a white pickup truck crashed into a light pole, according to police.

Officers looked inside the pickup truck and saw a man with a gunshot wound, police said.

Rescuers with the Long Beach Fire Department took the man to a hospital, where he later died, police said.

Initial investigation shows the man was inside the pickup truck when he was shot, police said, adding that they are trying to determine suspect information and a motive.

The man’s identity will not be released until the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner has contacted his next of kin, police said.
