Man Shot, Killed In Long Beach Alleyway

A man was shot and killed in an alleyway near 7th Street Wednesday night, the Long Beach Police Department announced Thursday.

LONG BEACH, CA — A man was shot and killed in an alleyway near 7th Street Wednesday night, the Long Beach Police Department announced Thursday.

At 5:53 p.m. on Feb. 1 officers received reports of multiple gunshots heard in the are of the 700 block of Broadway Court. At the scene, LBPD found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body.

Though first responders attempted life-saving measures, the man was later pronounced dead after he was transported to a local hospital. The victim's identity was withheld pending notification to his family by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner–Coroner’s Office.

Upon further investigation, homicide detectives discovered that an unknown male suspect approached the victim from behind in an alleyway and fired multiple gunshots at him. The suspect then fled the scene before LBPD officers arrived, officials said.

"Detectives do not believe the incident was random, however, the investigation to determine the motive for the shooting remains under investigation," LBPD said.
