Man Who Allegedly Shot Long Beach Mom Holding Toddler To Face Judge Today
A 35-year-old Corona man will face a judge for the shooting death of a Long Beach mother and the attempted murder of her husband and child.

LONG BEACH, CA – A Riverside County man charged with one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder will face a judge to determine if there is enough evidence to move forward with a trial today. John Kevin McVoy Jr., 35, of Corona, allegedly killed a Long Beach woman as she was holding her toddler and shot the woman's husband in the head.
McVoy allegedly shot Susan Garcia and her husband in January after going to their home in the 6300 block of Knight Avenue and getting into an argument with the couple. Susan Garcia, 33, was shot in the upper body as she was holding her toddler and was pronounced dead at the scene, prosecutors said, and her husband was shot in the head.
The toddler – who is named along with Garcia's husband as victims in the attempted murder counts – was not struck by gunfire, but fell to the ground with her mother, according to Sarah Ardalani of the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office. Other people in the house disarmed and subdued McVoy immediately after the shooting, according to authorities.
