Restaurant owners fed first responders as waves swamped the Peninsula (lbpost.com) — After powerful waves damaged the Long Beach Peninsula boardwalk and forced evacuations, Andrade's Cafe by the Bay stepped up by cooking pizzas for firefighters working through the night to reinforce sand berms. Owners Nancy and Jorge Andrade, who regularly support local first responders and Coast Guard personnel, say their year-old neighborhood restaurant is all about community, welcoming regulars and new neighbors alike.

Thousands stitched grief into 9/11 memorial now housed at quilt museum (unl.edu) — Two Long Beach residents, Corey Gammel and Peter Marquez, helped transform post‑9/11 grief into the massive United in Memory quilt, now preserved at the International Quilt Museum in Nebraska. Thousands of contributors worldwide stitched blocks honoring each victim, and the panels continue to travel for exhibitions, keeping personal stories and national history alive for new generations.
