Long Beach Lawmaker's Bill Targeting 'Addictive' Social Media Features Signed (patch.com) — Long Beach residents are represented in a new statewide law by Assemblyman Josh Lowenthal, whose bill restricts addictive social media features like infinite scrolling and autoplay for users under 16. The measure, signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom, creates an e-Safety Advisory Commission and aims to make platforms safer for kids, while sparking debate over privacy, age verification, and free speech implications.
   

2. $250M Transformation Of 76-Year-Old Veterans Memorial Stadium Begins (patch.com) — Long Beach residents can look forward to a completely rebuilt Veterans Memorial Stadium, as Long Beach City College begins a $250 million project to create a modern Stadium and Athletic Sports Complex. Funded by Measure LB, the new facility will feature a 10,000-seat stadium, 2,500-seat arena, upgraded fields, training spaces, and classrooms, all designed to honor the site's long history in the community.
   

3. Restaurant owners fed first responders as waves swamped the Peninsula (lbpost.com) — After powerful waves damaged the Long Beach Peninsula boardwalk and forced evacuations, Andrade's Cafe by the Bay stepped up by cooking pizzas for firefighters working through the night to reinforce sand berms. Owners Nancy and Jorge Andrade, who regularly support local first responders and Coast Guard personnel, say their year-old neighborhood restaurant is all about community, welcoming regulars and new neighbors alike.
   

4. Effort launched to stop beach erosion after high surf from Marie damages Long Beach homes, boardwalk (abc7.com) — Long Beach oceanfront homes and the beloved boardwalk have been battered by powerful surf from Hurricane Marie, leaving visible erosion and at least one home yellow‑tagged. City officials are urging residents to stay away from the damaged beachfront while crews work on repairs and assess how to better protect the coastline from increasingly intense storms.
   

5. Thousands stitched grief into 9/11 memorial now housed at quilt museum (unl.edu) — Two Long Beach residents, Corey Gammel and Peter Marquez, helped transform post‑9/11 grief into the massive United in Memory quilt, now preserved at the International Quilt Museum in Nebraska. Thousands of contributors worldwide stitched blocks honoring each victim, and the panels continue to travel for exhibitions, keeping personal stories and national history alive for new generations.
