📰 News we're reading

• New Details Released In Hit-And-Run That Killed Grandmother: Police (patch.com) — Long Beach police are asking for the public's help to identify the driver of a silver Ford Mustang involved in a Sept. 5 hit-and-run that killed 73-year-old Long Beach resident Tate Song near Long Beach Boulevard and East 23rd Street. Investigators have clarified that, contrary to initial reports, a Metro light rail train did not strike her, and they are urging anyone with information to contact detectives or LA Crime Stoppers as the family seeks support for funeral costs.

• Salt water can seriously damage your car. Here's what AAA says to do (presstelegram.com) — With seawater flooding streets in Long Beach, AAA is warning drivers not to start or move any vehicle that has touched salt water, especially hybrids and EVs, because of hidden corrosion and fire risks. Instead, residents are urged to have cars towed for inspection and avoid flooded roads as coastal flood warnings and advisories continue through the coming days.

• Pesticide pollution persists as officials develop stricter regulations (calonews.com) — West Long Beach residents are living near fumigation facilities where methyl bromide levels have spiked 20 times this year, sometimes far above what's considered safe for long-term exposure. Regulators are studying health risks and drafting stricter rules, but advocates say monitoring is too limited and notifications too weak, leaving families near the Port of Long Beach worried about invisible pollution in their neighborhoods.
