Pedestrian Struck By 3 Vehicles In Long Beach Dies; 2 Drivers Sought (patch.com) — A man in his 50s died after being hit by three vehicles while crossing Pacific Avenue in Long Beach, and police are still searching for two drivers who fled the scene. The crash marks the city's 34th traffic fatality of 2026, and investigators are urging local witnesses to come forward with any information to help identify the missing motorists.
   

3. 10th annual Día de Los Muertos Festival returns to Long Beach (lbcurrent.com) — Long Beach's Día de Los Muertos Festival is returning Nov. 1 to Rainbow Lagoon Park with a free, family-friendly celebration from 1 to 7 p.m. After last year's cancellation over federal enforcement concerns, the city has combined funds to allocate $100,000, and local groups and vendors can still apply to participate through Oct. 23.
   

4. Long Beach has installed 18 automated speed cameras across the city — drivers could face fines of up to $500 (secretlosangeles.com) — If you drive in Long Beach, be prepared for 18 new automated speed cameras going up on high-crash streets, in school zones, and in areas with street racing problems. A five-year pilot program will issue warnings at first, then tickets ranging from $50 to $500 depending on how far over the limit you're going, with an online map showing exact camera locations and enforcement hours.
   

5. How do you dispose of an abandoned Russian submarine? Long Beach is on the hook to find out (lbpost.com) — Long Beach officials are exploring how to safely remove the deteriorating Russian Scorpion submarine moored beside the Queen Mary, which the city now considers an abandoned asset. They're gathering cost and safety information from towing and salvage firms, weighing options for cutting up and hauling away the 55-year-old vessel while protecting water quality, nearby infrastructure, and handling hazardous materials properly.
