Long Beach has installed 18 automated speed cameras across the city — drivers could face fines of up to $500 (secretlosangeles.com) — If you drive in Long Beach, be prepared for 18 new automated speed cameras going up on high-crash streets, in school zones, and in areas with street racing problems. A five-year pilot program will issue warnings at first, then tickets ranging from $50 to $500 depending on how far over the limit you're going, with an online map showing exact camera locations and enforcement hours.

They're gathering cost and safety information from towing and salvage firms, weighing options for cutting up and hauling away the 55-year-old vessel while protecting water quality, nearby infrastructure, and handling hazardous materials properly.
