Pedestrian Struck, Killed In Long Beach
A man was struck by a car and killed Thursday night in the South Wrigley area of Long Beach, police said.

LONG BEACH, CA — A man was struck by a car and killed Thursday night in the South Wrigley area of Long Beach, police said.
According to the Long Beach Police Department, dispatch received a report of a traffic collision between a pedestrian and a car at about 10:39 p.m. on Sept. 7. When officers arrived, they found the victim and began attempting life-saving aid until Long Beach Fire paramedics arrived.
Despite efforts, the victim was declared dead at the scene.

Preliminary investigation results revealed a 2016 Dodge Charger was traveling southbound along Pacific Avenue when the victim crossed the street outside of a marked crosswalk.
"The driver of the Dodge was unable to stop or avoid striking the pedestrian. The driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation," LBPD said in a statement.

Distracted driving, impaired driving and speed were believed to be factors in the collision, authorities said. The victim's identity was withheld pending notification of his next of kin by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner/Coroner.
