Suspect Hit By Metro Train In Long Beach, Dies After Getting Stuck

LONG BEACH, CA – A suspect was freed after getting stuck between a platform and a Metro train at the Wardlow Blue Line Station in Long Beach, and has died of his injuries, police said Wednesday.

Officers were conducting and enforcing police activity around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the station at 3420 N. Pacific Place. The suspect, described as in his 20s, left a portion of his body exposed off the platform and was struck by an inbound train, causing him to be caught between the platform and the train, said Long Beach police Sgt. James Richardson.

Long beach firefighters freed the man using air bags before taking him to a hospital, where he later died, Richardson said. Police did not say what the man was wanted for or the nature of the police activity at the station.

Blue Line trains skipped the Wardlow Station Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning as the investigation was underway, Metro officials said. Bus shuttles were in service at the Del Amo and Willow stations to take riders to the Wardlow Station.
