Those Are Fighter Jets You Hear, But We're Not Under Attack

Four F/A-18 aircrafts are expected to land in Long Beach Friday afternoon, according to airport officials.

LONG BEACH, CA – If you hear some loud noise in the sky, don't be nervous! Four F/A-18 aircrafts are expected to arrive at the Long Beach Airport late Friday afternoon and will depart Sunday late afternoon "after a few planned operations over the weekend," according to airport officials.

All times are tentative and subject to change. Long Beach Airport Public Affairs can be reached at (562) 570-2678.

This isn't the first time loud aircrafts made their way through Long Beach. In October of last year, low-flying jets flew through the city to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Gen. Chuck Yeager breaking the sound barrier. Four high-performance fighter aircrafts flew over parts of orange County and Los Angeles, causing some confusion from residents in the area that didn't know where the loud noises originated.

The jets included an F-15 Eagle, F-16 Fighting Falcon, F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II from Edwards Air Force Base, and were at an altitude of 1,000 feet above ground level for most of the flight, according to a statement from the Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base.
